Northeastern ethnic groups festivalThe 8th Northeastern Region Ethnic Minority Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival will be held in Tuyen Quang province on September 27-30.

The event aims to introduce domestic and foreign visitors to the distinctive cultures of the northeastern region which are being preserved during the process of integration and development.

The five-day event, co-organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Tuyen Quang provincial People’s Committee, brought together 700 actors, artisans and athletes from provinces in the region, including Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc.

A variety of activities and art performances showcasing traditional customs, food, costumes, folk games and sports took place during the event.

At the closing ceremony, the organising board presented 19 A prizes, 38 B prizes, 31 C prizes and one consolation prize to outstanding performances and individuals in artistic and cultural events.

Tuyen Quang province secured the top spot in the sporting events with 14 gold, seven silver and two bronze medals, followed by Phu Tho in second place with five golds, four silvers and six bronzes, and Thai Nguyen in third with one gold, five silvers and eight bronzes.

The festival aimed to promote tourism and the beautiful landscape of Tuyen Quang, as well as the cultural identities of ethnic groups in northeastern Vietnam, and offer an opportunity for the ethnic groups to gather and exchange experiences.

The eighth Northeastern Ethnic Group Culture, Sport and Tourism Festival officially began on September 27 with an opening ceremony on the theme ‘Northeastern Vietnam – A Beautiful and Sacred Land’ at Tan Quang Park, Tuyen Quang province. The opening ceremony was attended by Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) and Deputy Head of the CPVCC Commission for Organization Tran Luu Hai, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Publicity and Education Truong Minh Tuan and representatives from ministries and central agencies, as well as delegates from provinces in the region. The event also attracted 1,000 actors, artisans and athletes from provinces in the region, including Bac Kan, Giang, Ha Giang, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc. This year’s festival is taking place in Tuyen Quang September 27-30, featuring a wide range of cultural and sporting events including the Tuyen Quang Beauty Contest, the ‘Cultural Colours of Northeastern Ethnic Groups’ photography exhibition, and the 2012 Tuyen Quang Trade and Tourism fair. The event, jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Tuyen Quang provincial People’s Committee, aims to promote tourism and the beautiful landscape of Tuyen Quang, as well as the cultural identities of ethnic groups in the province and northeastern Vietnam.

The event will feature a wide range of cultural and sporting events including an incense offering to commemorate heroic martyrs, the ‘Cultural Colours of Northeastern Ethnic Groups’ photography exhibition, and the 2012 Tuyen Quang trade and tourism fair.

The main event of this year’s festival is the opening ceremony on the theme ‘Northeastern Vietnam – A Beautiful and Sacred Land’, which will take place in Tan Quang Park, Tuyen Quang province on September 27.

The event aims to promote tourism and the beautiful landscape of Tuyen Quang, as well as the cultural identities of ethnic groups in the province and northeastern Vietnam.

 It will be participated by art troupes from nine provinces, namely Phu Tho, Ha Giang, viagra soft Thai Nguyen, Bac Kan, Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, and the host Tuyen Quang, said Vu Thi Bich Viet, Vice Chairwoman of the Tuyen Quang provincial People’s Committee.

 A photography exhibition on ethnic minorities will take place during the festival, as well as a trade and tourism fair, arts performances, a beauty contest and various sports games.

 The organizing board of the Tuyen Quang beauty contest has received more than 150 entries from hopeful local residents and shortlisted 22 for the final round of the competition.

 The winner of the contest will receive VND30 million, while the second and third runners up will win VND20 million and VND15 million, respectively.
