German tour operators explore MICE

Countdown begins for Hanoi’s 1,000th anniversary

The capital city will soon begin counting down the days until the 1,000th anniversary of its founding in 1010 with the name Thang Long.
“To help residents and visitors count, a giant digital clock will be put in place on January 13, said Pham Quang Long, director of the Ha Noi Department of Culture and Information.
Over 300 journalists to attend Hue Festival 2010

Three hundred journalists from 43 domestic and foreign press agencies have registered to cover the Hue Festival 2010.
In recent times, wide coverage has been given by domestic press agencies, including Radio the Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Television, the Thanh Nien (Young People), Tuoi Tre (Youth) and Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Saigon) newspapers.
International cuisine festival to open in Ba Ria-Vung Tau

The World Culture and Cuisine Festival 2010 will take place in the southern coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau from May 21-25.
According to organisers, 50 countries have so far registered to participate in the large festival that features not only the cuisine but also the culture of those countries.
France still major partner at Hue Festival

French artistes will play a substantial part in the Hue Festival 2010, which will take place in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue from June 5-13.
Ngo Hoa, Deputy Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee and Head of the festival’s organising board, said that one theatre group from the region of Poitou-Charentes will entertain visitors with installation and street art while the funk band Les Traine-Savates will play at the festival’s opening ceremony and various other open sites in Hue City during the festival.
Xa Tac Worshipping Ceremony

For years, the Vietnamese people have practiced many worshipping rites. When speaking about the royal worshipping ceremony, apart from Nam Giao Worshipping Ceremony, it is impossible not to mention the Xa Tac Devotion Ritual that was ranked in the list of Dai Tu, before Trung Tu and Quan Tu by the Nguyen Kings, meaning that it was one of the most important among national worshipping ceremonies.
As explained by our ancestors, the Xa Tac Altar was built to worship the two genies of wet rice cultivation; rice and soil (Xa means soil and Tac means rice).
The words “Xa Tac” also implicated the country and people. Therefore, anyone from the king to the common people attached much importance to the rite.

Chrorumchec – a festival worshipping the sea in Soc Trang

Khmer people in the Mekong Delta have many year-round festivals, most of them featuring ethnic religion and culture, namely Chol Chnam Thmay, Dolta and Ok Om Bok. In Soc Trang Province’s Vinh Chau Dist, Chrorumchec, the festival to worship the sea, is held on the 14th and 15th days of the second lunar month and is aggressively promoted to attract millions of visitors.
The festival worshipping Vinh Chau Sea has existed for hundreds of years and the meaning of the festival is to pray for peace for the country, safety for the people, good weather and a great harvest. Moreover, the festival commemorates forefathers who were devoted to the country, the god who blessed them with a good life and the sea that provided them a bounty of food.
